When Squidoo was released, tons of affiliate marketers jumped on the train and hoped to earn money by selling their products more efficiently. However, many of them failed at it. The main reason being; these affiliate marketers did not know how to correctly use Squidoo. These affiliate marketers turned their Squidoo lenses into sales pages and plain advertisements for their products. This was a big mistake, and it still continues with many of the new affiliate marketers.
In essence, Squidoo is a miniature search engine which is home to tons of information on various topics. There is a reason behind why the Squidoo team only wants unique content displayed on their pages. Squidoo does have a large user base, but it does not mean you will make a sale by putting up sales pages on each lens you create. When searching for some specific keywords on Google, you sometimes will be directed to a Squidoo page. User’s who search Google, are clearly searching for information. They have no intention buying anything. That is not the impression you want to give them when the first visit your Squidoo page. The term “web 2.0 properties” is given to a set of sites which house information that is valuable to the public. Squidoo is part of this network per say. Squidoo should only be a reference or guide on a specific topic which lets them know what they need.
If your lens is a valuable source of information, you can be assured that you will have visitors coming back. Another aspect which brings in good traffic is the correct use of keywords. Do your research and select quality keywords, and get your Squidoo page ranking well for that particular keyword. There are tons of keyword tools available on the internet, so you can surely get a hold of one copy. Your aim is to find a keyword that has a high search volume and a low competition in search engines. Your Squidoo lens should be linking to your product page. It is much better to add a text link rather than an image linking to your page. Keep the linking to a minimum as well. Only one link to your sales page should be fine. This is the whole idea behind honest affiliate marketing. You have to be able to setup a guide or resource which people will follow. Once they get a hold of resource, they will automatically fall in. If you present a sales page when they search for weight loss exercises, there is no way they can establish a trust between you and them. In order for them to buy your products, they should be able to trust you. The only way that will happen is, if you provide them with quality information. Never try to trick your potential clients because it will hurt your business in the end. Follow through with an honest plan, and you will succeed!
